From what I understand I bring up my MacBook Pro and go to Time Machine and plug in the WD drive. Then follow the prompts for back up. Is this correct? This is suppose to be already formatted for MAC. There is an old back-up from the previous owner.

Do I just click on my new drive and continue? After mine is complete can I delete the other back-up and be okay? Everything is in my Apple ID and name on Applecare I purchased.
Apple deauthorized the previous owners Apple ID as I had the email address and original receipt from the previous owner when it was purchased. Me delete his user account so it is now associated with my ID.
