When I do a test and calibrate, I get a beautiful print out. Then I try an Indesign page and I get stair-stepping. It seems so random, it's really bugging me. For example, last night I updated the driver, just in case, and it printed out two pages and they were perfect. This morning I send another page and get stair-stepping, then I send two pdf pages and they print great. Then I send the same pdf page again and I get stair-stepping! It's been like this for about two months, but I just haven't had the time or needed to sort it out.

Now I'm proofing pages and trying to get a decent print out is a nightmare! I don't even know if it's a software or a hardware problem? I can't find much info on the net, and what I do find all seems to be pc/unix related? Am seriously considering getting a new printer!

If it surfaced on it's own, I'd suspect a problem with the printer. The good news is that for the price of some new cartriges, you can get a newer, faster printer. The bad news is that I don't know if HP makes a printer that takes the large capacity carts like you use in your current printer. How'd the new drivers work, anyway?!
